TEMPANO • Childhood's end / El fin de la infancia

Tempano is a group from Venezuela. The group made a progressive rock album in 1979, an album that is alledgedly excellent. In the following years, most of the members abandoned the group, which eventually put out 5 albums of pop rock.
Their progressive album was issued in a cd release in 1998 by Musea. This was the occasion that led to the project of a new progressive album by the group.

The group is composed of four members, Pedro Castillo, Giuglio Della Noce, Miguel Echevarreneta and Gerardo Ubieda, who respectively play guitars, keyboards, bass and drums. They are accompanied by Peter Pejtsik (cello) from the hungarian group After Crying. The bass player often distinguishes himself. Vocals are present in two tracks : in a song and in a passage of the title track. Tempano is not one of those progressive groups that have a peculiar and very personal sound. The album is not a neo-progressive one. It does not have a south american flavor either.

The album mixes different styles : tracks that are jazz-rock, a song, a 24 minutes suite. The title track is a well conceived amalgam of different musical territories and sonorities that encompasses jazz-rock elements and progressive symphonic elements.

This album will be of particular interest to fans of progressive rock that includes jazz rock elements. Strongly recommended.
